Something I learned in a Gen. Ed. class!

1–2 minutes

Hi friends!

Last year, I took a social media marketing course, which widened my horizons when it came to thinking about a career decision. In this course, we completed a simulation as a social media marketer that was focused on building a brand named Buhi, which sold bags, across all of the popular social media platforms. Within this simulation, we were given a weekly budget that we were able to spend on media of our choosing, the ability to caption and schedule our posts, and the chance the run the simulation to see our results. Depending on how well you paid attention to your peak times, character counts, and target audiences, impacted your score.

As I was taking this course, I did not have to shoot any of my own photography for this business or think about designing the content that would go into the visual part of the posts. Now that I am in courses that focus more on photography strategies, layout, and general design, I am relating more of this information back to the course that I took. I am using the designer side of my brain to think about how to build the visual and set the tone for the post, and then using the analytical side of my brain to build captions, trigger keywords, and post on a set schedule.

After taking this course, I think that I could see myself going into a career that involves both marketing and graphic design.
